Over the last few weeks theres finally been some heated debate about calls to end the “War on Drugs” across the pond that seems to even have some of the most hard line republicans finally starting to open their eyes to the truth. Talk of the faults of the US judicial system has been at the top of the headlines. There is a good roundup in The Economist which published a must-read leading article on the critical state of prisons in the US.

As the November date ebbs closer for California’s vote on Proposition 19 America is keeping a close eye on the polls of the most discussed US vote since the election of Obama. This whole sordid state of affairs is well explained by Professor David Nutt’s “Precautionary Principle”. If only our Governments took a leaf out of his book.
